The days are getting longer, the temperatures are getting higher and the ominous need to get out and about is getting stronger!
We all muddled through this bitter winter somehow and while we know that Spring will have officially Sprung on March 20, 2015, for many of us, the lingering snow piles left in our backyards beg to differ.
So how does one get out of the winter funk and shake some of that cabin fever while Mother Nature is still playing her wicked weather games? Perhaps you have already taken a Caribbean Cruise or spent a few weeks in Florida. However, for many of us, time and budget constraints paired with inevitable work commitments do not permit these coveted “vacations.”
So what to do? You absolutely cannot sit in your house for one more weekend staring at some electronic device! Forget the “vacation” and instead, plan a “staycation!” No packing, no airplanes, no passports – just good ole’ fashioned fun right here in your backyard, the Pocono Mountains, all in a day’s drive! Here are a few great local places and upcoming events in the Poconos, Northeast PA that are sure to get you over the hump until the tulips start pushing up!

Did you know that Northeast PA offers exciting Indoor Farmer’s Markets in the off-season? Check out the Cooperage Farmers’ Market in Honesdale and the Monroe Farmers’ Market in Stroudsburg.
How sweet it is that Northeast PA boasts an amazing history of Maple Sugaring! See for yourself on a Self-Guided Maple Tour on March 21 and 22! Discover 10 of the area’s best “Sugar Bushes” including Altemier Sugar Shack in Newfoundland, Journey’s End Farm in Sterling and Burke’s Maple in Carbondale! Explore the amazing “tree to table” process of making Maple Syrup – you might just find some pretty sweet souvenirs along the way too!
Thinking about the 1st night when you can finally relax on your porch and gaze at the stars with a perfect glass of wine? But where will you find your perfect pinot, mesmerizing merlot or blissful blend? Try one of Antler Ridge Winery’s locations in Hawley or Waymartor visit Capra Collina in Jessup or Honesdale. If beer is more your style, visit Barley Creek Brew Company in Tannersville.
If you are interested in some of the most intriguing history our area has to offer, spend the day in beautiful Jim Thorpe, named one of the US’s “Top 50 places to Live and Play” by National Geographic! Learn the story of the town that changed its name (for only $5) at the Mauch Chunk Museum and Cultural Center or tour the Asa Packer Mansion after April 4th (for only $10) and relive the inspiring story of Asa Packer and his family. There are quite a few delightful restaurants and shops around town as well – a perfect day trip! We are sure that this charming town will leave you longing for more once the weather breaks and you can explore the canyons and waterfalls along the Gorge Trail – but that’s another story!
